POLYTECH AWARDED $10,000 STATE FARM® GRANT TO PROMOTE ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN COUNTY SCHOOLS
Polytech students in the Electrical-Energy Trades and Teacher Academy High School Programs will teach green energy efficiency to Hunterdon County middle school students during Earth Week in April thanks to a State Farm® and SkillsUSA $10,000 ‘Innovation in Sustainability’ grant awarded to the school in February.

ADVISORS SOUGHT FOR THE NEW CAREER ACADEMY OF HEALTH SCIENCES
The new Career Academy of Health Sciences, scheduled for launch this fall 2010, is developing an advisory board and interested community stakeholders are sought to help develop the academy infrastructure. The $100,000 planning grant requires the formation of a strong committee and grant Coordinator Robert DeVoto has been reaching out to community to identify members who will support and sustain the new health sciences program at the school.

PreVet Science teacher Taryn Rafferty presented at the Technology Centers that Work (TCTW) National Forum...
....sponsored by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) in January. Ms. Rafferty was appointed by Polytech Principal Dan Kerr to present her Literacy Pilot Model with Hunterdon Central High School as part of the Forum’s Literacy and Numeracy panel discussion. Panel participants discussed English and math strategies for broadening the definition of rigor and improving instruction to address technical, academic and 21st-century knowledge and skills.

POLYTECH STUDENTS RECOGNIZE CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH
Melissa Monaghan, Culinary student from North Hunterdon HS, Bryan Wiszniewski, Commercial Arts student from Hunterdon Central HS and Rachel Kismey, Pre-Vet student from Del Val HS accepted the “Career and Technical Education Proclamation” plaque recognizing February as Career and Technical Education month at the recent Board of Chosen Freeholders meeting. The students spoke about their Polytech programs and the positive impact their experiences have had on their postsecondary education plans. All three seniors plan on continuing their education in their chosen career field.
