| Construction Trades Instructor: Mr. Tom Ramsin, 908-284-1444 Ext. 12 Construction Trades I Job opportunities are increasing as the demand for construction services continues to expand. In this course, students learn practical skills in our state-of-the-art shop through hands-on project work such as building sheds, constructing block and brick walls, and structuring house frames. Students additionally learn workplace readiness skills applicable to construction. Students learn to safely use tools and equipment including power saws, drills, routers, transits, and surveying equipment. Field trips to actual construction sites give students the opportunity to see real work in a construction setting. Students will also learn the business and workplace skills unique to the construction industry. Students visited the Operating Engineers training site and were able to operate excavation equipment such as this buldozer.
Construction Trades II Central Campus Second year students do advanced study in the areas of carpentry, masonry, blueprint reading, site planning, cost estimating, and business management. Basic plumbing and electrical wiring are also introduced in this program. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a specialized study in a particular building trade area. Field trips to construction sites are planned and workplace readiness skills and career planning will be an important aspect of this course. Construction II student Vincent Sempervive stands next to a playhouse he helped build for for a local customer. In the course of the school year, students build several sheds and playhouses and sell them locally.
