Nursing I
Bartles Campus
20 credits
(10 science/10 elective)  

This is a college level course, the first in the sequence and is for the student who is interested in pursuing a career in nursing or any health care profession.  The curriculum covers extensive anatomy and physiology concepts which are reiterated through laboratory exercises and animal dissections. Students will also learn dynamics of healthcare throughout the year, focusing on medical history, culture, and communication. All courses are to prepare for the second year of the program and its encompassing clinical experiences, as well as meet Raritan Valley Community College's nursing program prerequisite.   Students who meet all application requirements are eligible upon high school graduation to apply directly to the nursing program at Raritan Valley Community Collelge. 

 Articulation Agreements: Raritan Valley Community College (8 credits); University of Medicine and Dentistry (11 credits).

Nursing II
Bartles Campus
20 credits
(10 science/2.5 Health/7.5 elective)

The second year of the program covers medical terminology, dynamics of fitness and wellness, and emergency and clinical care.  Students will explore careers in nursing, receive training in defibrillator equipment and obtain certifications in CPR (healthcare provider) and American Heart Association First Aid.  Students will also experience the nursing industry at local hospitals and health agencies through job shadowing, community volunteerism, mentorship, and internships. Culmination of the program includes the opportunity for students to obtain the certified nursing assistant certification (CNA), providing them the opportunity to work in the health care industry and develop the foundation skills required of the nursing professional.

Articulation Agreements:  Raritan Valley Community College (4 credits); University of Medicine and Dentistry (5 credits).

ABOUT THE NURSING PROGRAM:

Students in the nursing program will complete Nursing I courses junior year and return their senior year to complete Nursing II. Upon successful completion of these courses, students will have the option of receiving 16 credits from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey or 12 credits from Raritan Valley Community College, all of which are transferable to numerous colleges that offer nursing programs. A second option for students is to receive 12 credits with Raritan Valley Community College and apply to their nursing program immediately following high school graduation. The RVCC nursing program requires all students to have met the prerequisites as well as achieve a specific standard on the Accuplacer and TEAS placement tests to achieve eligibility for application to the nursing program. RVCC nursing program also offers the opportunity for students to earn their BSN at the college through an agreement with Kean University; please see the RVCC website for more information.
